Tanja van Abbema

Tanja van Abbema (Skettens, 1969) has lived in Harns for years. The clatter of the water, the life and empty space between form the inspiration for all she does. She writes poetry, makes sculptures and assemblies from found materials and paints.

“For a long time, I didn’t want to pour my interests into words, but starting in 2022 I write every day. The poetry course held by RIXT – the sharing with and learning from others – has pushed my writing into the right direction. Writing poetry has become a way for me to give space to what there is, look for connections through words and imagery, and find my ground-note. It enables me to bring complex things back to simplicity. The magic of playing with rhythm, sound and meaning is like writing or solving riddles: it is truly mystical.”
