I wrote my first poems when I was thirteen and had art classes from painter Pier Feddema (part of the ‘Yn ‘e line’ collective) at Ichtus College in Drachten. He encouraged me to keep writing. I became a teacher and stood in front of a class for 25 years. This kept me busy and away from writing. After a heavy heart attack, I stopped teaching and started to write and paint once more. Recently, I’ve combined the two and began writing short stories.
Poems and short stories have been published in the Frisian literary magazine Ensafh. A poem of mine about the river Luts is displayed on a steel plaque in Balk near the river. Another of my poems is on a war monument in Wâldsein. Moreover, I’ve published poems in the newspapers Leeuwarder Courant and Trouw. I’m currently writing my first collection of poetry.
