When he was 39, Bauke Terpstra (born in Koatstertille in 1970) decided to step away from a nine-to-five job and become a full-time visual artist. His main activities are painting, photography, objects and making assemblies from found materials. Additionally, the writing of poetry has become part of his body of work.
He takes a lot of inspiration from daily life. A line of poetry or a word might wash ashore, fly through the air, be found lying on the street or next to it, picked up in a conversation or lie in a box of old nails.
His aim is to use all these art forms to open doors within himself (and perhaps others) and to make room for another reality.
